Regarding that fairly tight outfield race, Carlos Gonzalez clearly deserves a starting spot, but will the third spot go to Justin Upton, who hasn't hit since April, or Bryce Harper, who has played in only 45 games? Or will those two crowd out Gonzalez? Given the realistic options, I'd easily go with Harper over Upton, who, as noted, hasn't played like an All-Star in many weeks. Down-ballot, Carlos Gomez of the Brewers certainly merits more support.

Elsewhere, it's good to see David Wright, who plainly deserves the starting honor, getting some separation at third base, and Yadier Molina is also padding his lead over Buster Posey just a bit. Given the way that Chase Utley has hit when healthy this year, I'd probably give him the nod over Phillips, although Phillips is always a reasonable choice. Otherwise, no serious complaints.

By way of reminder, full All-Star rosters will be announced Saturday evening, and we'll be here to break it all down for you. The game itself goes down on July 16 at Citi Field.
