The Orioles on Thursday activated third baseman Manny Machado from the 15-day disabled list. To make room on the active roster, they've optioned infielder Steve Lombardozzi to Triple-A.

Machado has been sidelined since undergoing surgery on his left knee last October. The Orioles are playing a doubleheader against the Pirates on Thursday, and Machado is not in the lineup for the opener. He is, however, expected to play in the nightcap.

The 21-year-old All-Star is coming off a 2013 season in which he notched an OPS+ of 102, tallied 51 doubles and provided otherworldly defense at the hot corner. Needless to say, he's a big addition for the O's.
