Orioles make offers for closer Grant Balfour and others
Baltimore is trying to fill about four holes, one of them at closer. The team has an offer in to Grant Balfour.
The Orioles have offers out to several players, including closer Grant Balfour.
It isn't known what the offer is to Balfour, but various reports have suggested a two- or three-year deal is possible.
The Orioles talked to Nelson Cruz's agent, but it isn't clear how involved the Orioles are there. Baltimore has been reluctant to give up the No. 17 overall draft choice, which would be necessitated by a Cruz signing.
There was a report Cruz turned down $75 million from the Mariners, and while that couldn't be confirmed, word out of Seattle is that a deal with Cruz isn't necessarily likely at this time. Texas seems more focused on another free-agent outfielder, Shin-Soo Choo at the moment.
The Orioles also are in on starting pitching, but the most recent names haven't surfaced. They showed interest in Bartolo Colon, who went to the Mets.
The Orioles have situations to resolve at closer, left field, DH and in the rotation.
The rookie outfielder will be further evaluated, though
