Orioles place Ubaldo Jimenez on 15-day DL with ankle injury
The Orioles have placed righty Ubaldo Jimenez on the 15-day disabled list with an ankle injury.
The Orioles have placed right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez on the 15-day disabled list with an ankle injury, manager Buck Showalter announced. He rolled his ankle during a workout earlier this week.
Jimenez, 30, has been on the disabled only one other time in his MLB career, for a cut on his finger back in 2011. He has made at least 31 starts and thrown at least 176 2/3 innings every season since 2008, his first full year in the show.
In 18 starts and 99 2/3 innings this season, Jimenez is 3-8 with a 4.52 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. Baltimore signed him to a four-year, $50 million contract over the winter. Ubaldo had an excellent second half with the Indians last season after being mediocre for most of 2011-13.
Right-hander Kevin Gausman has been called up and will start in place on Jimenez this weekend. The 23-year-old has a 3.51 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP in six spot starts and 33 1/3 innings this season.
