The Padres have activated center fielder Cameron Maybin off the 15-day DL, the team announced. First baseman/outfielder Kyle Blanks was sent to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Maybin, 26, has been on the DL for more than eight weeks with an impingement in his right wrist. He has missed a few games with nagging soreness in the wrist in recent years. In nine minor-league rehab games, he went 10 for 31 (.323) with three home runs.

Before hitting the DL, Maybin went 3 for 33 (.091) with one double in 10 games, though, obviously, the wrist could have been a factor in his performance. He hit .243/.306/.349 (85 OPS+) last season after breaking out with a .264/.323/.393 (103 OPS+) line in 2011. Maybin does his best work with his glove in the outfield.

Blanks, 26, hit .273/.362/.434 (128 OPS+) with four homers in 36 games with San Diego. The right-handed hitter was especially adept against southpaws, going 14 for 44 (.318) with two homers off left-handers.
