The Padres on Monday announced that right-hander Andrew Cashner has been placed on the disabled list because of shoulder soreness. Earlier, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reported that the Padres were going to approach Cashner's shoulder issues with caution, and this move is certainly in keeping with that plan.

This season, the 27-year-old Cashner has pitched to a 2.36 ERA and 2.68 K/BB ratio in 76 1/3 innings. For his career, he owns an ERA+ of 110 across parts of five big-league seasons. Cashner previously dealt with major shoulder issues in 2012 and 2011.
