The Phillies have placed outfielder/first baseman John Mayberry Jr. on the 15-day disabled list, the team announced. He is dealing with some left wrist inflammation.

Mayberry, 30, is hitting .213/.304/.418 (100 OPS+) with six home runs in 138 plate appearances this year. He is a career .272/.323/.533 hitter against left-handed pitchers and is a fine option for the right-handed half of a platoon.

Philadelphia figures to sell off some players before the trade deadline and Mayberry is a prime candidate to be moved. The injury means some team will have to acquire him while injured -- that is allowed -- or the Phillies will have to trade him as part of a waiver deal in August.

Darin Ruf was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move. The 27-year-old has hit .252/.343/.486 in 92 MLB games over the last three seasons.
