Phillies sign Chad Gaudin to minor league contract
The Phillies have added some pitching depth by signing right-hander Chad Gaudin to a minor league deal.
Gaudin, 30, went 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA (109 ERA+) and 1.25 WHIP in 97 innings for the Giants last season while missing time with an elbow contusion and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. He made 12 starts and 18 relief appearances, and that versatility is part of his appeal.
The Phillies will head into next season with Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Kyle Kendrick, Roberto Hernandez and Cuban defector Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez penciled into the rotation. Gaudin could win a starting spot or land in the bullpen.
