Pirates outfielder and reigning NL MVP Andrew McCutchen has been sidelined since Aug. 5 with a fractured rib and cartilage injury in his left side, but now his return to the lineup may be in sight. Here's the relevant tweet from MLB.com's Tom Singer:
Per Hurdle, #pirates optimistic McCutchen can "rejoin us tomorrow" when eligible to come off DL.

This is certainly welcome news for the Pirates, who are just off the NL wild card pace and still very much alive in the NL Central.
McCutchen this season is following up his stellar 2013 with similar excellence: .311/.411/.536, which is good for a career-best (and MLB-leading) OPS+ of 166. He's also tallied 17 homers and 17 stolen bases in 18 attempts.
