Following Friday night's 4-3 loss to the Mets, Phillies manager Charlie Manuel had a rather testy exchange with Howard Eskin of CBS Philadelphia on the subject of the struggling offense.

Wait. Before we get to our headlined "Quote of the Day," you should know that Messrs. Manuel and Eskin have a bit of a history when it comes to giving due consideration to settling things with Fists of Fury on Streets of Fire ...

So there's that. And here, courtesy of Crossing Broad, is the final exchange between Manuel and Eskin on Friday:

“I don’t know what I can do, Howard. If we don’t hit and score runs, I don’t know what we can do. I don’t know what nobody else can do about it and I know you can’t do a damn thing about it. So, what else do you want to know? Happy?”

[Charlie gets up]

"When are you gonna score 10 runs, that’s what I want to know."

“When I knock you out.”

Got that? There's a correlation between socking reporters and scoring runs. Any number of early 1990s Mets would surely agree.

Let's remember we're dealing with a down-to-business sum buck named Charlie Manuel, who, when he wants to, exudes a sense of menace even when making a pitching change ...
