Quote of the Day: Jeter isn't just 'shaking hands and kissing babies'
Derek Jeter is in his final season, but he doesn't like it when people call it his farewell tour.
Yankees captain and shortstop Derek Jeter announced he will retire after the season early in spring training, and like his teammate Mariano Rivera last year, he has been on something of a farewell tour these last few weeks. Opposing teams are giving him gifts and stuff like that each time he rolls through a new city.
Jeter, unsurprisingly, doesn't like any of this. He wishes it was all business as usual and he said so (again) on Monday:
Derek Jeter doesn't like this being called his farewell tour. "I’m not just walking around shaking hands and kissing babies, you know?"— Bryan Hoch (@BryanHoch) May 6, 2014
Shaking hands and kissing babies. I think it. Very ... captainly.
