Rangers now only one of many in Garza mix after snag sets sides back
The Rangers and Cubs were set back on the Matt Garza talks to the point where the Rangers are now viewed as only one of many teams now in the mix for the star right-hander.
The impressions left now is Texas and Chicago made no progress in overcoming the snag that derailed a deal for Garza on Friday night -- though the Rangers aren't eliminated as both sides are still looking for deals. Yahoo first reported about the snag.
The Rangers are looking at other starters, as well now, with Bud Norris, Jake Peavy and Yovani Gallardo the top starters known to be available. Garza has drawn considerable interest in a thin market for starting pitchers.
The deal included a package of Rangers prospects, with third baseman Mike Olt and pitchers C.J. Edwards and Neil Ramirez thought to have been on the table.
Garza is scheduled to pitch Monday for the Cubs, for whom he is 5-0 with a 1.24 ERA during his past six starts.
