The Rangers have placed ace Yu Darvish on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation. The team made the move retroactive to Aug. 10, the day after Darvish allowed six runs in four innings against the Astros.

Obviously, we know the worst-case scenario when it comes to elbow inflammation in a pitcher, but as of now any Tommy John assumptions are premature. Regarding that, here's good preliminary news ...

The team announced that Darvish will undergo further tests of his elbow.

This season, Darvish has pitched to a 3.06 ERA (131 ERA+) and 3.71 K/BB ratio in 144 1/3 innings. Despite missing time with injury, he ranks fourth in the AL with 182 strikeouts. For his career, the three-time All-Star owns an ERA+ of 128 and K/9 of 11.2 across three big-league seasons.

To take Darvish's place on the active roster, the Rangers have recalled lefty Alex Claudio from Triple-A. Per the team, Robbie Ross is expected to be recalled in time to start Thursday against the Rays.
