The Rangers are bringing back starting pitcher Colby Lewis on a minor-league deal -- with an invite to major-league camp -- the club announced Saturday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Lewis, 34, hasn't pitched in the majors since July 18, 2012, as a torn flexor tendon in his throwing elbow ended his season and several setbacks stemming from the procedure kept him out in 2013. He actually went on a minor-league rehab assignment, but he needed surgery to remove bone spurs from his right hip.
Lewis was 6-6 with a 3.43 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 16 starts in 2012. Since rejoining the Rangers after a stint in Japan, Lewis is 32-29 with a 3.93 ERA in 80 starts. He's also gone 4-1 with a 2.34 ERA in eight postseason starts.
The Rangers have five starters set for the rotation next season in Yu Darvish, Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando, Martin Perez and Matt Harrison. Harrison is coming off a major injury, too, so Lewis provides some depth there.
