Rays place Matt Moore on 15-day DL
The Rays have placed left-hander Matt Moore on the the 15-day DL, but no details of his injury were announced.
Moore, 24, left Monday's start with what was originally called elbow soreness, and was then sent for an MRI. He hurt himself throwing a pitch, and it was clear he was in discomfort as he pulled his arm towards his body after releasing the pitch.
The MRI was inconclusive, Rays president Andrew Friedman told reporters (Topkin), so Moore is going to pay a visit to renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews.
In two starts this year, Moore allowed three runs in 10 innings. He struck out six and walked five. Moore walked 15 batters in 17 1/3 innings in spring training, and control problems can be a symptom of an elbow injury.
The Rays are without Moore and Jeremy Hellickson, who is recovering from offseason elbow surgery. Lefty Erik Bedard is in Triple-A and could wind up filling Moore's rotation spot.
Lefty reliever Jeff Beliveau was called up to fill Moore's roster spot for the time being. The 27-year-old has a 4.42 ERA in 18 1/3 career big league innings with the Rays and Cubs.
