Rays shortstop Yunel Escobar was removed from Saturday night's game after taking a pitch on the left wrist from Rockies right-hander Jon Garland. Here's the pitch:

Escobar, obviously, was in an awful lot of pain and left the game after being looked at by the trainer for a few minutes. The replay makes it look like the pitch got him in the boney part of the wrist.

Escobar, 30, entered Saturday's game hitting just .174/.228/.279 with two homers in 24 games. He has graded out well defensively according to the various metrics both this year and in recent years, so he has shored up the team's infield defense even if he isn't producing at the plate.
