Red Sox announce ALDS rotation: Jon Lester gets the ball in Game 1
Red Sox manager John Farrell announced his ALDS rotation on Wednesday, and left-hander Jon Lester will kick the series off in Game 1.
The Red Sox have been off since Sunday and they don't open the ALDS until Friday. The team played a tune-up scrimmage at Fenway Park on Wednesday afternoon, and afterwards manager John Farrell announced his upcoming rotation:
Lester, Lackey, Buchholz, Peavy is Red Sox rotation for ALDS. No surprise.— Evan Drellich (@EvanDrellich) October 2, 2013
It's no surprise Jon Lester is getting the ball in Game 1 considering how well he's pitched of late. Clay Buchholz was dominant this year when he wasn't on the DL with a neck problem, but John Lackey will start Game 2 because he has pitched substantially better at home this summer. Jake Peavy gets the fourth spot over Ryan Dempster and Felix Doubront. No surprise there.
Boston will play the winner of Wednesday night's AL wild-card game between the Rays and Indians in the ALDS. The series starts at 3:07pm ET on Friday.
