Red Sox place Felix Doubront on 15-day DL with shoulder strain
The Red Sox have lost left-hander Felix Doubront to a shoulder strain.
The Red Sox have placed left-hander Felix Doubront on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder strain, the team announced. The move creates a spot on the active roster for the recently re-signed Stephen Drew.
Doubront, 26, left Tuesday night's start with what he said was numbness -- not pain or soreness -- in his shoulder and was sent for tests today. The extent of the strain is unknown. He missed time with shoulder inflammation in spring training last season.
In nine starts and 45 2/3 innings this season, Doubront has gone 2-4 with a 5.12 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP. He went 11-6 with a 4.32 ERA in a career-high 162 1/3 innings last season.
Boston has not yet announced who will replace Doubront in the rotation. Before the injury, the Red Sox and Brewers were the only teams to use no more five starters so far this season.
