The Red Sox have placed outfielder Shane Victorino on the 15-day DL with a right hamstring injury, the team announced. Jackie Bradley Jr. was called up to fill the roster spot.

Victorino, 33, had offseason thumb surgery and also missed time in camp with a ribcage problem. The hamstring issue popped up in the final days of spring training.

In 122 games last season, Victorino hit .294/.351/.451 (119 OPS+) with 15 home runs, 21 steals and a league-leading 18 hit-by-pitches. His right field defense is also a plus.

Bradley, 23, lost the center field job to Grady Sizemore this spring. He hit .189/.280/.337 (69 OPS+) with three homers and two steals in 37 games with Boston in 2013.
