Red Sox place Will Middlebrooks on DL with fractured finger
The Red Sox have lost third baseman Will Middlebrooks to a fractured finger.
The Red Sox have placed third baseman Will Middlebrooks on the disabled list with a fractured finger, according to WEEI.com's Alex Speier. He was hit by a pitch and missed a few games earlier this week, though it's unclear if the pitch resulted in the fracture.

Middlebrooks, 25, missed time earlier this season with a calf injury as well. He has hit .197/.305/.324 (74 OPS+) with two home runs in 21 games this season. Middlebrooks is a career .248/.296/.448 (99 OPS+) hitter with 34 home runs in parts of three big league seasons.
Infielder Brock Holt was called up to fill the roster spot. The 25-year-old hit .348/.429/.435 (140 OPS+) with one stolen base in seven games for Boston earlier this season. He has hit .315/.380/.454 in 27 Triple-A games as well.
