Reds getting Devin Mesoraco, Tony Cingrani back from DL
Though they might have to place Joey Votto on the DL, the Reds are getting Devin Mesoraco and Tony Cingrani back.
Though the day started off with some bad news, the Reds are now providing their fans with some good news. Catcher Devin Mesoraco has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and starting pitcher Tony Cingrani will soon follow.
Mesoraco will immediately be inserted into the lineup Friday night (that is, unless the game is rained out). The 25-year-old backstop pulled his hamstring while running the bases a few weeks ago. Prior to that, he was red hot, hitting .468/.509/.787 with six doubles, three homers and 13 RBI in 13 games. He started the season on the DL with an oblique injury.
In three minor-league rehab games, Mesoraco went 3-for-10 with a home run.
Cingrani, 24, will rejoin the Reds Sunday, the club told reporters (C. Trent Rosecrans). Through six starts, the left-hander is 2-2 with a 3.34 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 32 strikeouts in 32 1/3 innings. He's been on the shelf since May 1 due to left shoulder inflammation. He did not go on a rehab assignment.
