The Cincinnati Reds have agreed to sign reliever Carlos Marmol to a minor-league deal, reports Jon Heyman of

Marmol, 31, began the season with the Marlins and made 15 appearances with them before he was released on May 19. In those 15 appearances, Marmol posted an 8.10 ERA and 1.95 WHIP. Though his strikeout rate was still good (14 K in 13 1/3 innings), it was the lowest in his career as a reliever.

Marmol's become a bit of a punchline due to his control woes and propensity to cough up saves rather easily the past few seasons, but he was once one of the best relievers in the majors. Given that this is only a minor-league deal, it's tantamount to a lottery ticket for the Reds. It'll probably never amount to anything but it's worth a shot.
