Report: Allen Craig to be placed on disabled list
After just one game of action with the Red Sox, Allen Craig is headed to the DL with an ankle injury.
After just one game with the Red Sox, Allen Craig is set to be placed on the 15-day disabled list with an ankle injury, reports WEEI.com. As a corresponding move, the Red Sox will call on outfielder Corey Brown, according to the report.
Craig, 30, was 1-for-4 with a double in his only action for Boston, after being traded along with Joe Kelly in a deadline-day deal for John Lackey. He's hitting .237/.291/.348 (79 OPS+) with seven homers and 44 RBI in 98 games this season. This is a far cry from his All-Star production last season, when he hit .315/.373/.457 with 13 homers and 97 RBI.
With Craig down and Shane Victorino likely out for the season, look for Daniel Nava to get regular playing time in the outfield, though Brock Holt and Brown are also options alongside Jackie Bradley Jr. and Yoenis Cespedes.
