Report: Coveted Cuban outfielder Yasmani Tomas has defected
According to Ben Badler of 'Baseball America,' Yasmani Tomas, the next big thing out of Cuba, may be on his way.
Highly regarded Cuban outfielder Yasmani Tomas has defected, reports Ben Badler of Baseball America.
Tomas, 23, has a capable glove at the outfield corners and boasts tremendous raw power and major-league talent in general (click through for Badler's more complete scouting report). As Badler notes, Tomas, because of his service time at the top Cuban professional level, will not be subject to signing-pool restrictions.

Obviously, given the recent success of Yoenis Cespedes and Yasiel Puig, Tomas, what with his age and power potential, will generate plenty of interest on the open market.
