Report: Indians listening to trade offers for Justin Masterson
Even though they're looking to add a starting pitcher, the Indians are open to trading Justin Masterson for a long-term solution according to Fox Sports.
In an effort to secure long-term rotation help, the Indians are listening to trade offers for right-hander Justin Masterson, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The sinker-baller will be a free agent next offseason.
Cleveland is seeking rotation help this winter after losing Scott Kazmir and likely Ubaldo Jimenez to free agency. Masterson is their best starter, but there's no harm in listening to offers. Quality starting pitching is hard to find and some team could always make an offer the Indians can't pass up.
Masterson, 28, had a 3.45 ERA (109 ERA+) and 1.20 WHIP in 193 innings last season. He led baseball with three complete game shutouts and finished the year in the bullpen because of an oblique injury. Masterson has thrown 180+ innings in each of the last four seasons.
Clubs like the Orioles, Yankees, Blue Jays, Angels, Rangers, Mariners, Braves, Phillies and Pirates could have interest in Masterson. The Tribe should have no trouble drumming up offers, but finding a team that will give up a long-term rotation option for him will be a bit more difficult.
