Report: Jon Lester 'likely' to make decision by end of week
It is "likely" starting pitcher Jon Lester will make a decision regarding his free agency by the end of the week, a baseball executive told CSNNE.com. It appears the Cubs, Red Sox and Giants are the favorites to sign the veteran left-handed pitcher.
Sources suggested the Cubs offered a six-year, $138 million deal, while the Red Sox appear willing to offer a six-year, $130 million, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. It's possible the Red Sox and Cubs could increase their offers, if they haven't already.
Lester, who met with the Giants on Monday, has also met with the Braves, but it appears their bid is lower than the other two, according to Heyman. There is no information yet on the Giants' negotiations with Lester.
