Royals outfielder Alex Gordon will miss the next three to four weeks because of a broken bone in his right hand, Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star reports. Specifically, Gordon has suffered a broken scaphoid bone.
Gordon sustained the injury on Saturday during this collision with third baseman Mike Moustakas:
This season, Gordon is off to a slow start, as he's batting .211/.319/.331 in 166 plate appearances.
To replace Gordon on the active roster, the Royals have recalled infielder Cheslor Cuthbert from Triple-A Omaha.
This marks the second year in a row in which the Royals will be without Gordon for an extended period of time. Last season, Gordon missed almost 50 games with a torn groin muscle, but the Royals, en route to winning the World Series, actually improved their record while Gordon was on the shelf.
