Report: Sox, Rays GMs were free to trade aces to any team but Yanks
Leading up to the non-waiver deadline, Andrew Friedman and Ben Cherington were free to trade aces David Price and Jon Lester to one of exactly 28 teams.
It is to be assumed, of course, that Rays GM Andrew Friedman and Red Sox GM Ben Cherington fielded many inquiries before eventually settling on a deal for their respective aces.
