Report: Tigers claim Chad Qualls on revocable waivers
The Tigers reportedly now have until Wednesday to work out a trade for Astros reliever Chad Qualls.
The Tigers have put in a revocable waiver claim on Astros reliever Chad Qualls, reports Peter Gammons. If that's indeed the case, then the Tigers have until Wednesday to work out a trade for the 36-year-old right-hander. However, MLB.com's Brian McTaggart wrote earlier that the Astros are more likely to pull Qualls back rather than hammer out a deal.
In either case, it's easy to understand the appeal for the Tigers, who have Joakim Soria on the DL and have struggled to get reliable innings out of closer Joe Nathan. This season, Qualls has pitched to a 3.07 ERA and 7.60 K/BB ratio in 44 innings of work. He's also coming off a strong 2013 with the Marlins.
Qualls is under contract through next season, and his deal also includes an option for 2016.
