Reports: Cardinals have interest in trading for Red Sox's Jake Peavy
The Cardinals have a need in the rotation, and they may look to add Boston right-hander Jake Peavy to the fold.
The Cardinals of course have a need in the rotation given that Jaime Garcia is out for the year, Michael Wacha has an uncertain time-table and Joe Kelly is still on the DL. As for Peavy, the 33-year-old this season has pitched to a 4.64 ERA and 2.00 K/BB ratio in 110 2/3 innings. Last season, he logged a 99 ERA+ in 23 starts for the White Sox and Red Sox.
The former Cy Young winner hasn't pitched at a high level since 2012. Prior to that, he wasn't both healthy and effective since 2008. That said, a return to the non-DH league and the run-suppressing tendencies of Busch Stadium could help Peavy achieve at least superficial improvement.
Peavy was one of the deadline trade candidates recently named by CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman.
