The Rockies have placed outfielder Carlos Gonzalez on the bereavement list following the death of his grandfather in Venezuela. He will be replaced on the active roster by outfielder Charlie Blackmon.

The 26-year-old Gonzalez is batting .320/.389/.542 this season with 20 homers and 25 doubles. Blackmon, also 26, has an OPS of .838 across Low-A (injury rehab assignment) and Triple-A this season. In 102 career plate appearances at the major-league level, Blackmon has hit .255/.277/.296.

Elsewhere, Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies will soon activate right-hander Jhoulys Chacin from the disabled list. Chacin, 24, has been on the DL since May 6 because of a nerve problem. He's slated to start Tuesday against the Mets

While Chacin has struggled in his five starts this season, he was outstanding in 2010 and 2011 and is without question one of the most gifted arms in the Rockies' system.
