Rockies shut down Jhoulys Chacin with shoulder inflammation
Rockies starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin has been shut down indefinitely and is going to get an MRI on his throwing shoulder.
Bad news from Rockies camp Sunday, as starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin has been shut down indefinitely due to right shoulder inflammation. The club announced as much and has also noted that he's going to get an MRI Monday.
Chacin, 26, might not get much praise nationally, but he's a very good pitcher coming off a very solid season. He was 14-10 with a 3.47 ERA (127 ERA+) and 1.26 WHIP. Keep in mind where he pitches his home games, too, because in 18 starts in Coors Field, Chacin had a 4.18 ERA while in 13 road starts he sported a 2.44 ERA.
There's little reason to speculate as to the severity of a possible injury here. We'll know more once the Rockies get Chacin's MRI results. For now, the takeaway is just that he's been shut down due to a shoulder issue.
