The Royals on Saturday pulled off a miracle comeback against the White Sox, but before all of that went down KC catcher Salvador Perez was injured in a scary collision with third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert. MLB.com has video of the play in question, in which each player was in pursuit of a pop foul.

Perez was in severe pain after the collision and immediately signaled for trainers. Fortunately, Perez was diagnosed with a leg contusion, which is about the best-case scenario.

However, he will undergo an MRI, and it's always possible that MRIs reveal something worse than the original diagnosis. For now, though, it appears that the Royals' cornerstone catcher avoided serious injury, as Ned Yost said after the game that they don't believe any structural damage occurred.

This season, Perez is batting .277/.313/.494 in 176 plate appearances.

For what it's worth, this is the second serious collision involving a Royals third baseman this season. The first one caused significant injuries to Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas.
