Sean Doolittle issues rare walk, serves up walk-off grand slam to Rajai Davis
Sean Doolittle not only walked his second batter of the year of Monday night, he also served up a walk-off grand slam.
By any measure, Athletics lefty Sean Doolittle has been one of the best relievers in baseball this season. The bearded southpaw came into Monday's game with 11 saves and a 2.08 ERA in 39 innings. Most impressively, he had struck out 56 batters while walking only one. One!
Well, on Monday, he doubled his season walk total. Austin Jackson of the Tigers worked the free pass after fouling off three straight two-strike pitches. That walk loaded the bases for noted speester Rajai Davis, who ... well, check it out:
I don't know if I'm more impressed with Jackson for drawing the walk or Davis for hitting the walk-off grand slam. I mean, Doolittle had allowed two homers but only the one walk prior to Monday.
Anyway, that might have been the most fun win of the entire season -- as in April through September -- for Detroit. Enjoy, Tigers fans.
