Sure, Frank Thomas will accept the blame for the PED era
Hey, he says so himself.
Frank Thomas was rightly voted into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot on Wednesday, and thus ensued his time to hold forth on himself, on baseball and on himself in baseball. Regarding all of that, there's this championship comment from the Big Hurt:
Frank suggests his production might have led players to use PEDs.— Doug Padilla (@ESPNChiSox) January 8, 2014
Without question, envy and the unyielding rigors of high-level competition drove many ballplayers to use PEDs, so it follows that surveying the mighty likes of Frank Thomas (.301/.419/.555!) may be a part of that. Sure, why not.
Personally, I kind of like the implicit hubris of it: Frank Thomas says ballplayers may have turned to the dark arts because Frank Thomas was simply too mighty to behold. If you're Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine or Frank Thomas, then today is no day for false modesty.
