On Thursday, we brought you news that one of Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez's old jerseys had been stolen from Alonso High School during a candlelight vigil held in his honor following his tragic death in a boating accident.

Evidently the thief came to realize how disrespectful and distasteful their act was, because the jersey has since been returned to its proper owner:

Alonso High School still had another Fernandez jersey in its possession, but that's besides the point. Fernandez's passing will forever remain a tragedy, yet the love and compassion extended toward him, his family, and his teammates had been a comforting reminder that we can still come together in a positive way. Consider acts of kindness like this evidence:

That's in part why the burglary was so disheartening. Not because it broke the illusion that everyone is a big, happy family (though it did), but because it reminds you why that's an illusion in the first place -- and right now, still so soon after Fernandez's death, that's not what we need.
