Tigers place 2B Omar Infante on DL with ankle injury
Tigers second baseman Omar Infante has been placed on the 15-day DL because of a sprained ankle he suffered in Toronto last Wednesday.
Although the Tigers were hoping that second baseman Omar Infante could avoid a trip to the 15-day DL, they've now deactivated him as a result of the ankle injury he suffered against the Blue Jays last Wednesday. The move is retroactive to July 4.
This season, the 31-year-old Infante is batting .309/.340/.447 in 76 games. He's been replaced on the active roster by 22-year-old Hernan Perez.
Perez in 2013 has an Infante-like line of .300/.324/.422 for Double-A Erie. He's also tallied 28 doubles and stolen 24 bases in 31 attempts this season. On Tuesday night, Perez will be in the Detroit lineup, manning second and batting eighth.
