Braves righty Tim Hudson had to be carted off the field on Wednesday night after Mets outfielder Eric Young Jr. accidentally stepped on his right ankle/foot at first base. He was later diagnosed with a fractured ankle. Hudson will undergo surgery and then miss the remainder of the 2013 season.

Here is video of the play, but you are forewarned; it's rather gruesome:

Hudson, 38, was in obvious pain and stayed down on the field for a few minutes before being carted off. Young had tears in his eyes when he went over to apologize. It was a pretty brutal scene.

In 20 starts coming into Wednesday, Hudson had gone 7-7 with a 4.08 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 123 2/3 innings. He held the Mets to two runs on four hits in 7 2/3 innings before the injury.
