The Mets do not have any statues of their all-time greats outside Citi Field and Tom Seaver's wife Nancy is not happy about it. She told Eric Barrow and Larry McShane of the New York Daily News it's "ridiculous" the team hasn't erected a statue of her husband yet.

From Barrow and McShane:

The absence of a Seaver statue at the stadium is "ridiculous," said Nancy Seaver, she and her husband just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. "I'm embarrassed for (the Mets). I really am."

...

"They should have a statue for all those numbers they have retired on their wall -- Seaver, Gil Hodges, Mike Piazza," said Nancy Seaver, acknowledging Piazza's number that will be retired next month.

Most teams have statues outside their ballpark honoring the biggest names in franchise history. The Mets are one of the few that do not, and according to Barrow and McShane, the team has no plans to build a statue for Seaver or anyone else at this time.

I'm of the belief that less is more when it comes to retiring numbers and building statues and things like that, but that's just my opinion. Seaver is certainly worthy of all those accolades. He is the franchise leader in pretty much every pitching category, including wins (198), innings (3,045 2/3), and WAR (76.1). If the Mets do ever decide to build a statue, Seaver should be the very first person honored.

Seaver, now 71, played 12 years with the Mets from 1967-77 and 1983. He went 198-124 with a 2.57 ERA with the Amazin's, winnings three Cy Youngs and helping the club to the 1969 World Series title. Seaver won 311 total games in his career and was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1992.

The Mets have four retired numbers: No. 14 (Gil Hodges), No. 37 (Casey Stengel), No. 41 (Tom Seaver), and No. 42 (Jackie Robinson).
