Twins activate Josh Willingham, place Ryan Doumit on 7-day DL
The struggling Twins made a pair of roster moves on Friday. Most notably, they welcome OF Josh Willingham back to the active roster.
On Friday, the Twins activated outfielder Josh Willingham from the DL and placed catcher Ryan Doumit on the seven-day concussion DL.
The 34-year-old Willingham, who underwent knee surgery and hasn't played since June 30, is batting .224/.356/.398 (108 OPS+) this season. He's coming off a 2012 campaign in which he hit 35 home runs and won a Silver Slugger. Willingham, should he start hitting right away, could be traded during the waiver period. He's under contract for 2014 at a salary of $7 million with the possibility to make another $1 million in incentives.
As for Doumit, he took a foul ball off his mask on Sunday and has presented concussion symptoms in the interim. He's batting .244/.310/.389 in this, his age-32 season. Doumit previously suffered concussions in 2010, 2008, 2007 and 2005.
