Twins prospect Miguel Sano to undergo Tommy John, miss 2014
It's bad news for the Twins and third baseman Miguel Sano, who's one of the best prospects in all of baseball.
For Twins third base prospect Miguel Sano, the worst-case scenario has been realized. Sano, who recently underwent tests on his sore right elbow, will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the entirety of the 2014 season. MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger tweets that Twins assistant GM Rob Antony has confirmed the news.
Sano, 20, is a career .279/.373/.567 hitter across parts of the four minor-league seasons. One of the best power prospects in all of baseball, Sano last season tallied 35 homers in 123 games at the Double- and Triple-A levels. Not long ago, Baseball America tabbed him as the no. 6 prospect in all of baseball.
Sano was unlikely to break camp with the Twins, but he was sure to make his debut -- and probably stick for good -- at some point in the upcoming season. Now, he'll be sidelined for up to eight months.
