The Twins have signed closer Glen Perkins to a four-year contract extension through the 2017 season, the team announced. The deal also includes a club option for 2018. Here is the salary breakdown:

2014 - $4.025 million
2015 - $4.65 million
2016 - $6.3 million
2017 - $6.5 million
2018 - $6.5 million club option

Perkins, 31, was already under contract for both 2014 and 2015 with a club option for 2016, so he received two extra guaranteed years and a bump in salary. He was originally slated to earn $3.75 million both this year and next under the terms of his previous contract.

In 61 games and 62 2/3 innings last season, Perkins had a 2.30 ERA (177 ERA+) with 36 saves, earning his first trip to the All-Star Game. Since moving to the bullpen full time in 2011, he has a 2.45 ERA (166 ERA+) with a 10.2 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9.

Perkins joins Joe Mauer and Ricky Nolasco as the only players under contract with the Twins through 2017.
