VIDEO: Indians announcer tears up during son's first at-bat
Nick Hamilton, son of Indians radio announcer Tom Hamilton, played his first big league spring training game on Monday, and dad was there to watch.
The Tribe selected Hamilton's son Nick out of Kent State back in the 35th round of the 2012 draft, the type of nepotism pick teams make all the time in the late rounds. Nick, 24, hit only .235 with one home run in 33 Single-A games last season, but, on Monday, the Indians called him up to big league camp for the day and started him at DH. Here is his first at-bat:
Hamilton declined to work the game, instead attending as a fan so he could watch his son play in a major league spring training game for the first time. These last few days of spring are always a bore, but stuff like this makes it all worth it. This must have been a thrill for both Tom and Nick.
