VIDEO: Jackie Robinson on 'Sesame Street'
Here's a look back at Jackie Robinson's appearance on 'Sesame Street' during the show's first season in 1969.
Like many of you, I grew up watching baseball and Sesame Street. The two have crossed paths a few times over the years. But in honor of Jackie Robinson Day, here is No. 42's appearance on the show during its first season, in 1969, 13 years after his playing career ended.
Unlike athletes who appear on the show today, Robinson did not wear his team's uniform or carry any equipment (bat, glove, etc.) that identified him as a baseball player. Just Jackie Robinson, reciting the alphabet on Sesame Street. Classic.
