VIDEO: Light tower at Nationals Park catches fire
A light tower at Nationals Park caught fire on Thursday night but, thankfully, no one was harmed.
During the 11th inning of Thursday's game between the Nationals and Diamondbacks at Nationals Park, one of the light towers in right field caught fire:
The sections below the light tower were evacuated and no injuries were reported. In a statement, the Nationals chalked the blaze up to a "minor technical malfunction" and said their "facilities team is currently looking into what may have caused the problem."
Can't say I ever remember seeing part of a ballpark on fire, certainly not during a game. As you can see in the video, the fans were checking out the fire while the players just kept chugging along, probably eager to get the extra-innings game over on the get-away day.
