The Rockies retired Todd Helton's No. 17 during a pregame ceremony on Sunday.
Prior to Sunday's game against the Reds (GameTracker), the Rockies held an on-field ceremony to retire Todd Helton's jersey No. 17. He retired following last season and is unquestionably the best player in the relatively brief history of the franchise.
Here is the ceremony:
In addition to the pregame ceremony, the Rockies gave the first 15,000 fans in attendance a Helton bobble-gnome:
Helton retired as a lifetime .316/.414/.539 (133 OPS+) hitter with 592 doubles, 369 home runs, 1,406 RBI and more walks (1,335) than strikeouts (1,175). That includes a .287/.386/.469 batting line away from Coors Field. He is the franchise leader in just about every significant offensive category.
Helton's No. 17 the first number retired by the Rockies aside from Jackie Robinson's No. 42.
