VIDEOS: Will Venable, David Lough, Nolan Arenado make diving grabs

In the span of about an hour Sunday afternoon, two outfielders turned in amazingly awesome diving catches. First, Padres' right fielder Will Venable robbed Jayson Werth of extra bases. Here's the video:

Not long after that, David Lough of the Orioles took at least an double and probably a triple away from the speedy Jarrod Dyson with this diving catch:

Both excellent in their own way. Lough definitely had more hang time but his catch was made in the eighth inning of a blowout. If he fails to make the grab, it's no big deal. Venable's catch came with the score a little closer and early enough in the game that a comeback was definitely possible.

Which diving catch was better? How about ... neither. I nominate this diving grab by Rockies' third baseman Nolan Arenado, which took a hit away from Scott Van Slyke:

Yep, that was the best diving play of the day. It was a two-part defensive play (diving stop plus throw from foul territory) and that ball required some seriously quick reflexes. It was scorched. They don't call it the hot corner for nothing.

With all due respect to Venable and Lough, who made stellar plays of their own on Sunday, Arenado wins the day.
