WATCH: Andrew McCutchen's excellent catch
Pirates center fielder and NL MVP candidate Andrew McCutchen make a most excellent snare against the Cubs on Thursday night.
Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen is the NL-MVP frontrunner not only because he produces at the plate and on the bases, but also because he provides nifty glove-work at an up-the-middle position. The latter quality was on display Thursday night against the visiting Cubs. Dig it:
Fast-sinking humpback liner tailing sharply away from him, and he still snares it. That kind of catch requires a quick first step, a direct route, exceptional concentration and a sure hand. All were on display.
More to the point, McCutchen's Pirates prevailed and after dropping four straight have now won four in a row.
