Cubs catcher Willson Contreras hit a solid single up the middle in the early going on Tuesday evening. Of course, it only looked like a single. It ended up being a double, with an accidental assist from long-time umpire Joe West:

A hustling Contreras definitely deserves some credit there, because a lot of players would have just sauntered into first base. Still, there's obviously a zero percent chance that's a double without West kicking the ball. No, he didn't do it on purpose, but it's hard to blame the Padres fans who booed West immediately thereafter.

In the end, though, Contreras didn't score so this was nothing more than a harmless and fun video clip.

Yes, I'm of the opinion that it gets even more fun when realizing it's Joe West and let's give some bonus points to Cubs color man Jim Deshaies for the "rare, off-the-Cowboy Joe double" comment. Well done, JD.
