Saturday night in Colorado, the Cubs beat up on the Rockies (CHC 9, COL 2) the same way they've been beating up on the rest of the NL this season. Chicago improved to 78-44 with the win, easily the best record in MLB.

Late in Saturday's game, Rockies catcher Nick Hundley swatted a solo home run to get the Rockies on the board. Here's the video:

The Cubs were already up 7-0 at that point, so Hundley's homer didn't have much impact on the final score. It had no, impact really. It was a stat-padding shot, basically.

So why am I showing Hundley's homer to you? Because a Cubs fan caught it and threw it back onto the field. In Coors Field. The ball was thrown back on a home team homer. Check it out:

I'll never understand the whole "throw the home run back onto the field" thing. I mean, I get the symbolism, but why throw it back? Give it to a kid or something. That's way more fun.

Of course, it appears a kid caught Hundley's home run, so maybe the appeal of catching a baseball is not what it used to be.
